Electronic configuration
In atomic phsyics and quantum chemistry, the electronic configuration is the distribution of electrons of an atom or molecule in atomic or molecular orbitals.
Lithium
Lithium
- Find the element on the periodic table atomic number = 3
- What is the period number? 2
- How many shells? 2
- What is the group number? 1
- How many valence electrons? 1
- What subshells does Li have? s
- What is the electronic configuration? 1s^2 2s^1
The coefficient is the energy level and is also the period number. The exponent is the group number and number of electrons in the orbital and the letter, s in this case, is the type of orbital.
